TECHPitch Award Winner at 2018 HX is Beekeeper

This year's TECHPitch winner at the HX was Beekeeper, an employee communications app that is designed for non-desk workers and located globally in 1,000 properties. HX was held at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City from Nov. 11-12. This is the fourth year a TECHPitch competition had been held at HX. As the winner of TECHPitch, Beekeeper will be awarded a free tech kiosk at HX 2019.

TECHPitch allowed five finalists-all HX exhibitors-to showcase their unique products in a presentation, with the winner chosen by a panel of judges made up of hospitality industry thought leaders. They were: Valerie Ferguson, regional general manager, Walt Disney Co.; Are Morch, hotel blogger and social media consultant; Gregory Pesik, managing director, applied intelligence, Accenture; and Vijay Dandapani, president & chief executive officer, Hotel Association of New York City.

"All of the finalists brought exciting, new hi-tech creations and innovations to the table, and we thank them for participating and welcome them back to HX next year," said Phil Robinson, HX show director. "The winner, Beekeeper, offers a unique technology designed to keep all hotel employees in touch and connected."

The company was founded in 2012 by Cristian Grossmann and Flavio Pfaffhauser, who wanted to created a way to connect people through technology. They noticed that companies with a large number of non-desk employees had a hard time keeping them in the loop with the rest of the organization. Beekeeper bridges this gap by connecting operational systems and communication channels within one secure platform that is accessible by mobile and desktop devices. You can customize the platform, schedule automated messages, establish communication streams, and create and distribute employee surveys. Beekeeper's corporate office is in Zurich, and the United States headquarters is in San Francisco.

"We have found that 80% of all hotel employees do not have an email address. This mobile app allows employees to stay connected and gives them the chance to have a voice," said Connie Rheams, Beekeeper's global head of hospitality sales, who made the pitch and accepted the award at HX.

Giving hotel employees this communication tool and this "voice" also helps make them feel more satisfied in their jobs. This allows managers keep the best staffers and reduce their employee turnover - which is an ongoing issue throughout the hospitality industry, Rheams added.

The other finalists who gave their pitch were: CIRQ+ , GenZe, Sparkwork, and TipZyp.
