Profile of IHG True Hospitality for Good Program: Making a Difference around the World
In keeping with this issue's theme of giving back, HX: The Newsletter Editor Laura Koss-Feder profiles IHG's brand new True Hospitality for Good program for communities and charitable giving.
This new program is providing colleagues in IHG hotels and offices with a greater say in how they support important causes around the world. The aim is to help change lives for the better through building skills and education in hospitality, and by supporting communities when disaster strikes, according to Kate Gibson, IHG's vice president, global corporate responsibility.
For the last three years, the company has supported communities through the IHG Foundation, an independent charity. In July, IHG decided to switch its support for communities and charitable giving to its newly created True Hospitality for Good program. The IHG Foundation will continue to exist in its independent form, as it tracks grants already made and manages the allocation of existing funds, according to the company's website.
“Many companies have responsible business commitments, but with hotels in local communities all over the world, IHG touches the lives of millions of people. This puts us in a unique position to make a real difference and we want to ensure we have a positive impact on all who interact with us," Gibson said.
She added: "True Hospitality for Good, our new flagship program for communities and charitable giving, is key to this."
Some of the key elements to the new program are the following:
True Hospitality for Good Fund
Creation of a new $3 million fund. This will be distributed over three years, focusing on bringing True Hospitality to life in communities through stronger multi-year charity and NGO partnerships, and helping people in times of disaster.
Giving for Good Month
September 2018 was a month dedicated to colleagues coming together to make a positive change through volunteering, taking care of the environment, or activities focused on health, fitness and well being. For every colleague that got involved, IHG made a donation of up to $4 to their nominated IHG charity partner.
Focus on Volunteering
Almost 50,000 colleagues dedicated more than 200,000 hours of their time to great causes in 2017’s IHG® Foundation Week. There will be more opportunities for colleagues to volunteer going forward.
Plans are being developed for match funding to encourage colleagues to get involved in supporting IHG’s chosen charity partners.
Linking with IHG® Rewards Club
IHG will be encouraging its loyalty members to donate points to a selection of its charity partners. Gibson said that September, which had been the first Giving for Good month in the new program, was focused on colleagues coming together to do one good deed. "With more than 375,000 people making up the IHG family, we know we have the reach to make a meaningful difference," Gibson said. "Through their energy, dedication, and commitment, we are able to create positive local change, on a global scale."
